Bathroom on FOP

Although some trips offer bathrooms (please specify on your intake form if you need this for any reason), many FOP trips lack bathrooms. So does this mean I just don't "go" for 6 days? Not at all! Using the bathroom in the outdoors is easy and you'll soon be a master. Below is what you can expect a "bathroom" to look like.

Privy

A privy, also known as an outhouse, is non-plumbed toilet structure that sits above the ground to store human waste.  Think outdoor porta-potty. Privies are located at some campsites and have rules about how you use them. Your leaders will tell you more about them.

Where's the Privy? I Really Have to "Go"

Since not all campsites have privies and sometimes we need to "go" at any moment, knowing how to use the bathroom in the outdoors is essential. Although there are more specific rules about where and how you "go" in the outdoors (your leaders will fill you in later), it's pretty similar to how you would normally use the bathroom.

Going Number 1

Find a nice spot- maybe behind a tree for privacy- and then "go". Don't forget to use hand sanitizer after! Also, some choose to use pee rags- an antimicrobial cloth- as a substitute for toilet paper or the classic "drip and dry" method (shake your booty and then pull up your pants).

Going Number 2

Once again, find a nice spot. But this time, you'll need something called a trowell, or a small shovel. You'll use your trowell to make a small hole the same depth and diameter of the trowell. Next, you'll squat over the hole... and you know what. When you're done, you'll refill the hole and add sanitizer to those hands! Make sure to ask your leaders about the number 2 tier system!
