FOP 2026 Leader Applications Are Open!
Wahoo! It is hard to believe that the Class of 2029 has already almost finished the first semester of college, but here we are. FOP may seem like forever ago at this point, but we hope you haven't forgotten how your experience at Harvard began... and on that note...
We are excited to announce that the application to be a FOP leader for 2026 is now open!
FOP leaders facilitate Harvard’s largest and oldest pre-orientation program for incoming first-years. Leaders are first and foremost community builders who help first-years in their transition to Harvard over a 6-day outdoor trip experience. FOP provides all necessary training, and no outdoor or leadership experience is required. You do not need to have been a participant or have engaged with FOP to apply, and we have a variety of trip types to accommodate varying levels of comfort in the outdoors. All that is needed is a desire to build supportive communities and a willingness to grow as a leader!
In addition to the leader application, FOP offers several paid positions throughout the year:
Gear Managers (Spring Semester): Work 4–6 hours per week cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the FOP gear room in the SOCH. Paid at $15/hour (up to 20 hours/week).
Basecamp Staff (Spring Trips & Summer FOP): Provide logistical and emergency support for trips while they are in the field, including driving, problem-solving, and hiking to meet groups. Basecamp works longer field days and is paid a $75/day stipend.
Summer Staff (July–August): A part-time (up to 20 hours/week) on-campus role responsible for finalizing gear, food, transportation, and all logistical needs for our summer and fall trips. Paid at $15/hour.
If you are only interested in these employment opportunities, you will be able to submit your application without answering the leader application questions.
You can find the application here and find more information about leading on our website.
FOP will be holding more recruitment events in the coming weeks where you can ask questions, learn more about the application, and what it’s like to be a leader -- some dates and times are below!
